Our Surrender Process
Step One:
Contact our email info@crossingsanimalsociety.org to let us know you would like to surrender your pet, please include the circumstances for why and pictures of the animal
Step Two:
Reach out to your veterinarian/veterinary practice and request all vet records be sent over to our email, it is important that your pet is up-to-date on all vaccinations before moving forward
Step Three:
Depending on foster home availability, we will move forward by placing your pet into a foster home, or if we have no space, ask that you keep your pet until the adoption date (this process could take months, if your circumstances are such that you only have a few days to house the pet, please reach out to us to request other resources that may be able to help quicker)
Step Four:
If you will be keeping the pet, go to our website and fill out the appropriate pet foster application, as you will be the temporary foster until the animal is adopted
Step Five:
We will assign a staff member or volunteer to begin vetting your application, and you will be notified with the decision, typically no later than one week after submission (this can vary depending on your home visit availability)
Step Six:
Our staff and volunteers will begin posting your pet on our adoption sites, social media, and occasionally through email
Step Seven:
Once interest is shown, we will move forward with our standard adoption process, please refer to our page titled "Our Adoption Process" if unfamiliar with the way we work
Important Notes:
We will be in constant contact with you during this process, so it is imperative that you respond to all emails, calls, and texts from us as soon as you can. A surrender is only successful if both parties are on the same page and work together until the pet is able to be adopted. If your circumstances change at any time during this process, you must contact us immediately!
