After 3-1/2 days of searching, the 10-month-old pup is finally safe. Winston was recovered just around dinner time on Tuesday night, using a

humane trap set up by a professional tracker.

Shortly after being brought home by the tracker, his family brought him to be checked out by the excellent team at Urgent Vet in Newtown, PA.

He got some mild pain medicine and a medicated shampoo. Winston otherwise received a clean bill of health and returned home to get some very well-deserved rest and recover with his family.

Winston's family truly pulled out all the stops.

While Winston is catching up on his sleep out of the heat in an air-conditioned home, his family deserves some serious rest, too. The amount of determination, organization, and love they poured into finding him was remarkable.

They created flyers, spoke to every neighbor in the vicinity, and spread the word about Winston's being lost across social media. They contacted the police, local rescues and shelters, and veterinarians. Then they hired the tracker, who works with Precision Aerial UAV Search and Rescue, to use drones and humane traps to find Winston and bring him home.

When Winston was spotted on the nearby private property of Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, Winston's people obtained permission to enter the property to look for their dog. (The correctional facility deserves a shout-out, too. They offered to send up their drones as well to help find Winston.)

The family kept pushing forward every single day until Winston was safely home.

Finding Winston was truly a community effort. While Winston and his family are new members of The Crossings Animal Society family, their own community absolutely came through for them. Neighbors, friends, and family searched, shared updates, checked cameras, kept watch from their homes, and helped give Winston the space he needed to feel safe.

Lost dogs don’t always behave the way we expect, and sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is be patient, observe, and let them come to us. The people who understood that, while still keeping an eye out for Winston, played an important role in his safe return.

We are so, so grateful to everyone whose efforts led to Winston's safe return. Have a wonderful life, Winston. You certainly have a wonderful family to live it with.

Now, if anyone knows how to interview a dog, please reach out — because Winston has some explaining to do. 🐶❤️
